Mental Health Awareness Month

This year's theme is "Back to Basics."

The theme was chosen for 2022, with the goal of providing foundational knowledge about mental health and information about what people can do if their mental health is a cause for concern. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a more important observance than ever: Almost 20% of American adults—nearly 50 million Americans currently experience mental illness, and many of them suffer in silence because of the stigmas associated with mental illness and mental disorders. Acccording to Dr. Robinson an esteemed author, mental health therapist, and Pastoral Theologian, "Mental Health Awareness Month is necessary because so many times mental health is disregarded unless something devastating happens, like a demise by using suicide or a superstar having some sort of a breakdown, mental health is health and deserves to be put on the forefront just like the other ailments we understand at different stages in our lives. The greater we put mental health out front, the much less stigma and the more normalized it becomes.”
